Admiral Jellicoe House Embraces ‘Butterfly Approach’ to Enhance Dementia Care
Admiral Jellicoe House, our state-of-the-art care and nursing home in Portsmouth, has adopted the acclaimed ‘Butterfly Approach’ to further elevate the quality of dementia care provided to our residents.
Developed by Meaningful Care Matters, the Butterfly Approach is a person-centred care model that emphasises emotional intelligence and recognises the unique stories and experiences of each individual. By focusing on the ‘here and now’ of residents’ lived experiences, this approach aims to create an environment where individuals are ‘free to be me’.
Opened in June 2022, Admiral Jellicoe House offers resident-centred care and dedicated dementia support to veterans of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, as well as their dependants. The facility boasts 66 luxury en-suite rooms, an in-house library, cinema room, bar, formal and informal dining areas, and a communal balcony with views of the neighbouring park and cricket ground.
In addition to the Butterfly Approach, Admiral Jellicoe House is introducing Meaningful Care Matters’ ‘Dragonfly Approach’, which focuses on palliative care and hospice services, mental health, learning disabilities, and general health and social care settings. This approach emphasises the deeper meanings of life, drawing parallels with spirituality, mindfulness, and well-being.
Peter Bewert, Managing Director of Meaningful Care Matters, commented:
“We’re delighted to see Admiral Jellicoe House adopt our Butterfly Approach. It has been a testing time for the social care sector, so we applaud the home’s determination to offer an environment where veterans using its services can thrive and enjoy the highest quality of life possible. We look forward to assisting more care providers in facilitating the creation, reinvigoration, and sustainable implementation of person‐centred care cultures. It’s coming back to the art and heart of care, where people, and moments, matter.”
The RNBT remains dedicated to providing exceptional care to our veterans and their families. The integration of these innovative care models underscores our commitment to enhancing the well-being and quality of life for all residents at Admiral Jellicoe House.
