RNBT Trustee

The Royal Naval Benevolent Trust (The RNBT) is looking for a Trustee to join our Board. To be eligible as an ‘Ordinary Member’ Trustee you must be serving, or have served, on active service in the Royal Navy as a Rating or Royal Marines other ranks.

About The RNBT

The RNBT provides financial assistance and support to Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel and their families in times of need. We are based in Portsmouth but our reach extends globally.

We offer financial grants, regular charitable payments, signposting to other services, advice, and practical help to live a better life. We also support our older veterans at our two care homes in Gillingham, Kent and Southsea, Hampshire.

Our financial support is wide-ranging, and includes assistance for things like rent/mortgage arrears and rent in advance, furniture and furnishings, funeral expenses, mobility aids, fuel and energy bills, and training and employment – leading to over 90% of applicants becoming re-employed.

About you

We are looking for a Trustee with an understanding and knowledge of the current challenges facing our beneficiaries.

You must be able to demonstrate

• a commitment to model and uphold culture and values
• a commitment to the organisation and its objectives
• an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship
• an ability to plan ahead and look towards the long term future of the services provided by The Trust
• an ability to oversee the risk management framework
• good, independent judgement
• an ability to think creatively
• an ability to work effectively as a member of the team.

The role is voluntary with travel and subsistence expenses reimbursed. The time commitment would be the preparation for and attendance at six Committee meetings per year, which can be attended in-person or virtually.
