Kitchen Assistant – Pembroke House
Pembroke House is a purpose-built care home for veterans of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines in Gillingham, Kent that was converted from an orphanage in 1952. We have been serving Royal Navy and Royal Marines veterans and their dependants for 70 years. Our residents and staff enjoy a varied yet familiar way of life to encourage independence and give each day meaning and purpose. It has a ‘family-run’ feel and we have carefully created a supportive, friendly and close-knit team making it a unique and very special place to work.
The Job Role
We are now recruiting for a Kitchen Assistant to join the kitchen staff at Pembroke House. Reporting to the Head Chef, this role provides healthy and nutritional meals to our residents ensuring they follow a balanced and personal related diet.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- To ensure residents are provided with a professional personalised food service at meal times
- To encourage resident independence with menu choices and assist in completing their daily menu
- To provide residents with choices at meal times
- To provide a hot/cold drink round for residents
- To wash and replenish residents water jugs and glasses in rooms
- To collate menu information for the kitchen staff
- To maintain the standard of cleanliness of the dining rooms throughout the day
- To assist in the preparation of vegetables when required
- To ensure that all kitchen equipment and kitchen areas are cleaned according to the cleaning schedules
- To ensure statutory Hygiene, Health & Safety Regulations are adhered to
- To ensure correct storage of all dry and perishable goods as soon as possible after receipt and checking
- To ensure the correct, safe storage of cleaning materials
- To ensure that all pots, pans, cooking utensils and service counter containers are cleaned to the required standards and correctly stored after cleaning
- To keep dining room cupboards on all floors topped up with provisions and ensuring that all containers are clean and fresh
- To ensure all clean crockery and cutlery is returned to the respective floors
- To ensure all condiment sets, sauce bottles etc. in relevant dining rooms are kept clean and topped up at all times
- To follow the uniform policy at all times
- To assist at functions as directed by Head Chef
- To attend all Statutory Training as required by the Trust
- To carry out any other reasonable instructions of the Cook on duty
The Person
This role would suit a highly organised individual who has experience in a kitchen role. Someone who is diligent and enthusiastic and engaging with people.
