As a charitable organisation, The RNBT’s motto has always been ‘Serve a day, supported for life’. Whether you are serving, in transition from the service or an RN/RM veteran or dependent, we will do all that we can to get support to those who need it.

RNBT help is driven by need and delivered with kindness and compassion though:

Individual Grants

Every year we make thousands of grants to Serving and Veteran RN and RM personnel and their dependents. These grants range from less than £100 up to over £200,000. The circumstances must involve ‘necessity or distress’ (in the words of our Royal Charter).

Grants typically cover essential costs, such as food, clothing and utility costs (for UK residents only), but they can also cover things like: Training and Education for employment, furniture and furnishings, rent arrears and rent in advance, specialist medical equipment and mobility aids (e.g. EPVs, Stair-lifts and Riser Recliner Chairs), and help towards care home top-up fees and domiciliary care costs.

Regular Charitable Payments

Our Regular Charitable Payments (RCPs), supported by a generous annual grant from Greenwich Hospital, are paid quarterly to assist some beneficiaries on very low incomes. Though modest in amount, they can make a real difference to the quality of life of those receiving them. Recipients are normally identified when a potential beneficiary applies for a Grant for a specific purpose. An application for a RCP may be considered if made by a casework organisation.

Grants to Organisations

The RNBT makes a very small number of grants each year to organisations that directly assist our beneficiaries. For example, we support hospices in the Portsmouth and Plymouth areas with a flat rate grant for each of our beneficiaries who are cared for by the hospice, up to a maximum sum. These grants are typically less than £10,000 and paid on a quarterly basis. Learn more and how to apply for an Organisational Grant.
