Cost of Living Support for the Naval family
The Royal Naval Benevolent Trust (The RNBT) offers cost of living support for members of the Naval family – serving and former personnel, and their dependents – who are facing financial hardship. Here are the main ways we offer support. See also: How We Help.
Grants for Essential Needs
The RNBT provides financial assistance to cover critical expenses such as: food and clothing, utility bills and heating costs, household items and white goods, and rent arrears and council tax. These one-off grants aim to ease immediate financial pressure, especially during times of crisis. Learn how you can apply for financial help online here.
Regular Charitable Payments (RCPs)
For those with long-term limited income, The RNBT may offer ongoing financial support through RCPs—small, regular grants designed to help manage daily living costs.
Advice and Advocacy
While The RNBT doesn’t provide direct budgeting or debt counselling, we can:
- Signpost to partner organisations (like SSAFA or RBL) for additional help.
- Work collaboratively with caseworkers to create a tailored support plan.
- Help you navigate benefits or housing applications in partnership with other agencies.
Help for Families and Carers
Support is available not just for veterans but also for: serving personnel, retired ratings and Royal Marines (other ranks), and spouses, children, widows, and widowers. For more, visit: Who We Help.
Quick and Compassionate Process
Applications are usually made via caseworking organisations (like SSAFA, RBL, or Age UK), and decisions can often be made quickly—particularly in emergencies.
