14 October 2009 - MAYOR OF DUDLEY CHARITABLE DONATION
A former Mayor of Dudley chose the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust to be one of his charities for fundraising.

The Second Sea Lord, Vice Admiral Sir Alan Massey KCB CBE ADC, was the guest of honour at the RNBT’s annual presentation on 8 October at HMS NELSON Wardroom.

10 June 2009 - PEMBROKE HOUSE RECEIVES ROYAL VISIT
The Prince of Wales paid an informal visit to Pembroke House, Gillingham, the care and nursing home of the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust (RNBT) to meet residents, staff and supporters on the 9th of June.

06 May 2009 - SERVING SAILOR COMPLETES A TRIATHLON FOR THE RNBT
CPO Robert Govier (Taff to his mates) chose to raise money for the RNBT after agreeing to take part in a Triathlon just before Christmas 2008.

02 December 2008 - Go Commando!!!
On December 2nd 2007, Royal Marines Ben Gaffney and Orlando Rogers set out from the Canary Islands on an Atlantic crossing with a difference…Gone was the comfort of HMS Ocean as Royal Marines are more used to – they decided to cross the 3000 miles to Antigua in a 24 foot rowing boat – aptly named ‘Go Commando.’

12 November 2008 - HELITOTS DAY NURSERY
The Royal Naval Benevolent Trust was able to help the Helitots Day Nursery in Culdrose Air Station, with a grant towards a safe and stimulating environment for the service personnel’s children that attend there.

When Eric Cross, a 64 year old former Petty Officer (Radar), moved to a tower block flat in Portsmouth, he struggled to pay his bills.

Raymond Savage, a 73 year old former sailor, lives alone in a warden controlled block, in a small ground floor flat.

Janet and Craig are married with 5 children, aged from 12 to 6 months.

10 October 2008 - TRAINEE SAILORS SHOE SHINE FOR CHARITY
Four trainee sailors from HMS Raleigh's Drake Division have volunteered for extra shoe shining duties to raise money for a good cause.

The staff and residents held their annual BBQ in August, inviting the staff from Castaway House and representatives of Bishop’s Stortford Royal Naval Association to attend and enjoy the day with them.

01 October 2008 - GUNNING FOR CHARITY
Steve Banks, owner of the local family run air soft business Combat South, thought he would hold a charity day and chose the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust, hoping to raise £500. The sport, which is like paintballing, is hugely popular because the guns used are to real weapon specifications, and fire plastic projectiles (called beebees).

10 June 2008 - Veterans Outreach Support (Portsmouth)
At 1500 - 2000 on the 1st Wednesday of the Month Dr Morgan O’Connell (recently Chief Consultant Psychiatrist to Combat Stress) and John “Joe” Erskine (SSAFA – Forces Help (Portsmouth)), together with David Watts, (General Manager of The Royal Maritime Club), have arranged a “Veterans Outreach Support” programme for ALL Ex-Service Veterans and/or Family Members of Veterans.

05 June 2008 - RNA Bloxwich give donation to RNBT
When Royal Naval Association Bloxwich Branch had to sell their premises, as membership was lessening and the costs of maintaining the club were proving to be too high, a meeting was held to decide what to do with the proceeds of the sale.

12 February 2008 - VISIT TO PEMBROKE HOUSE BY VICE ADMIRAL
His Excellency Vice Admiral Sir Fabian Malbon KBE, the Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey and president of the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust and Lady Malbon paid a flying visit, to Pembroke House, the Trust’s residential and care home in Gillingham, Kent.

21 January 2008 - CENTENARIAN – BRUNO MATTHEWS
When asked “what is the key to living to 100 years of age and beyond,” Bruno Matthews, a resident at the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust’s care home (Pembroke House) at Gillingham, Kent, replied without hesitation, “strong principles, keeping active, enjoying the open air and being content with my lot.”

31 October 2007 - AUTUMN CLEAN FOR HALLOWEEN
The ladies on the staff at the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust (RNBT) felt that, although they had dressed up in their Halloween earrings and black & red clothes, it was time to get rid of the cobwebs on the anchor in the gardens of Castaway House, the RNBT HQ in North End, Portsmouth!

10 October 2007 - NEW PRESIDENT FOR RNBT
His Excellency Vice Admiral Sir Fabian Malbon KBE took up the post of President to the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust on 4 October 2007 in succession to Commodore Peter Swan Royal Navy who is staying on with the Trust as the Chairman.

10 October 2007 - ROYAL NAVAL BENEVOLENT TRUST - STAFF TEAM BUILD
Following a very successful annual presentation, the RNBT staff at Castaway House in Portsmouth decided that a spot of team building would be useful to consolidate gains already made in recent months.

10 June 2007 - RNBT HELPS OUT WW2 VETERAN
81-year-old widower Ron Oakley spent 6 years serving with NAAFI, taking part in the Dieppe raid when only 17, before joining the Royal Navy in 1948.
